As a Scientist I/II, Lead Discovery working on the ImmunoOncology Research team, you will be empowered to provide broad assay development support and implement new ideas and in vitro proof of concept studies , and a typical day will include:

POSITION OBJECTIVES:

The Lead Discovery group within ImmunoOncology Research at Takeda Boston is seeking a Biochemist/Cell Biologist/Immunologist with extensive invitro/cell based assay development experience to progress small/large molecule programs into the clinic. The successful candidate will also independently design and implement experiments to address mechanisms-of-action of therapeutic molecules. The research scientist will also be responsible for participating on matrix project teams, interfacing very closely with members of the Protein Sciences/Immuno Biologics/ Chemistry/IO Biology teams.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provide broad assay development support for early stage drug discovery projects in the field of Oncology/IO
  • Collaborate with engineers to identify suitable approaches for assay automation and execute high throughput small molecule/large molecule screens
  • Design, execute and validate a variety of assays to understand mechanism of action of compounds and characterize different biologics
  • Contribute and implement new ideas and in vitro proof of concept studies to enable initiation and progression of early discovery projects
  • Interface with project teams to meet timelines for project progression
  • Evaluate and implement the best assay technologies in collaboration with project teams to fit the purpose at hand
  • Present research findings clearly and effectively at internal and external meetings
  • Support drug discovery programs by providing relevant scientific and strategic input to drive project decisions
  • Manage resource allocation across programs based on needs and prioritization
  • Troubleshoot complex problems in creative and effective ways and actively participates in innovation and/or optimization of established processes to ensure delivery on project goals

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • PhD in Biochemistry/Cell Biology/Immunology with Post-Doc experience or 2+ years of relevant experience or equivalent, in early stage pharmaceutical drug discovery
  • Team player able to liaise across multiple disciples including Automation, Cell Biology, Chemistry, Compound Management and Immunology
  • Self-motivated, collaborative with excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Skilled in analysis, interpretation, and presentation of results
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture with best practices in tissue culture is required
  • Hands on experience with automated platforms
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to work in cross-functional project teams
  • Innovative and critical thinking
  • Ability to advance multiple projects in a fast paced environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Manual dexterity required to operate office equipment (i.e., computers, phones, etc.).
  • Carrying, handling and reaching for objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Working in a lab environment: standing, walking, bending, etc.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to travel to various meetings or client sites, including overnight trips.
  • Some international travel may be required.
  • Requires approximately 0-5% travel
