Novo Nordisk is currently building a new diabetes API plant in Clayton, NC next to our existing facility that employs 800 people. The new plant will initially employ 700 employees to produce the active ingredients for a new diabetes oral treatment and a range of other diabetes drugs.

Position Purpose:
Operate & monitor multiple plant Facilities & Site Support Systems from a centralized control center for the DAPI-US facility. Prioritize, communicate & follow up on system alarm & warning conditions & abnormal trends. Support the Automation, Controls & Facilities Engineers in operational troubleshooting & problem solving, system improvement & testing & data trends development. Assist maintenance team with equipment & systems shutdown, start-up, LOTO & EHS permitting. Establish & maintain positive working relationships with internal & external engineering team & stakeholders.


•Provide technical support for site & automation project execution, as required.

•Prioritize, communicate & follow up on alarm & warning conditions & abnormal trends on all applicable systems.

•Review, investigate & document system or operational anomalies for cause & clearance.

•Assist in establishing & maintaining standards & operational procedures for control room & automation systems.

•Support the installation, commissioning, qualification & training activities for all Site Support systems & controls.

•Support consistent operation, maintenance & response for all control systems (BMS, PCS, Life Safety).

•Support the Engineers & Facilities Maintenance Personnel as required for successful plant operations including troubleshooting & optimization activities.

•Adhere to all Quality & Environmental regulations within area of responsibility.

•Drive continuous process improvement using cLEAN® concepts.

•Adhere to all plant safety & environmental requirements in the performance of duties.

•Participate in systematic problem solving efforts.

•Other duties as assigned.

Education: MANDATORY

•AA/AS/AAS in a technical field, or equivalent combination of education & experience.


•5+ years facilities/utilities experience in a manufacturing facility. PREFERRED

•2+ years in facilities, utilities, or manufacturing automated systems control & operations. MANDATORY

•Knowledge & experience in the operations, maintenance & design of cGMP utilities as well as working in a regulated environment (FDA, cGMP, OSHA). PREFERRED

Technical/Process/Functional Knowledge: PREFERRED

•Proficiency in the majority of the following utility systems: chilled water, plant steam, compressed air, vacuum, waste water, HVAC, vacuum, water purification, nitrogen storage/distribution & clean steam. MANDATORY

•Prior qualification/work experience required in operating plant or facilities via control systems. MANDATORY

•Ability to read/review design drawings (CAD) with a basic understanding of P&ID, PFD, HVAC, electrical systems & equipment schematics.

•Understanding of technical documents such as URS, SAT, FAT, Commissioning & Validation Protocols.

•Understanding of complicated product documentation & standard operating procedures with attention to high-level concepts.

•Computer literacy with associated systems.

Organization/Planning: PREFERRED

•Ability to prioritize equipment & system issues based on environmental or safety risk, production impact, & operational need.

•Strong communication skills across multiple organizational levels.

Physical & Other Requirements:

•Occasionally moves equipment and\or supplies weighing up to 50 pounds within the facility.

•Routinely operates and inspects manufacturing equipment using hands.

•Must be able to be on your feet for up to a 12 hour shift.

•Constantly positions self to transfer materials within manufacturing environment. Frequently moves about the building to access other personnel and operational areas.

•Corrected Vision to 20/30 and/or ability to pass vision screening assessment necessary to procurement motorized vehicle license.

•Occasionally ascends\descends a ladder to service equipment. Works atop elevated positions at heights.

•Occasionally required to secure a motorized vehicle license and operate a motorized vehicle.

•Occasionally works around odorous and\or hazardous materials.

•Occasionally performs critical job functions in extremely cold work environments.

•Occasionally positions self within confined spaces for inspection, repair and maintenance of equipment.

•Ability to work in loud noise environments with hearing protection.

•Requires ability to move throughout the facility in the performance of duties in proximity of process equipment & areas.

•Ability to work the hours necessary to support a 24/7 continuous manufacturing operation.

•Ability to travel domestically & internationally, up to 10% of the time.
