Job Description Purpose
Participates in the creation and articulation of a vision for navigating the ever-changing healthcare environment by conceptualizing brand-optimizing strategies and initiatives in order to maximize value for all inline and pipeline products in the Novo Nordisk portfolio. Ensures policy considerations are incorporated in market access decisions.
Reports to Senior Director, Strategy & Portfolio Innovation. Interacts frequently in collaboration with internal management and senior level managed markets customer representatives. Interacts internally with colleagues from Strategy & Portfolio Innovation, as well as team representatives from Value Communication, Contracting Strategy, Finance, Account Executives, Field Sales, Medical Affairs, Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Brand Marketing, and all others, including global colleagues/counterparts, on a routine basis. Ensures strong collaboration across functions to develop the long-term access strategy for Novo Nordisk’s product portfolio and provides timely communication of insights to all relevant partners. Close relationships with Global Market Access, the Global Project Teams (GPT) and Core Commercialization Teams (CCT) for launch brands are required. External relationships include interactions with key managed markets customers, as well as vendors and consultants.
Collaborates with Director in developing the long-term market access outlook and strategy for inline and pipeline products across the Novo Nordisk portfolio across all channels. Role entails channel expertise to guide and support the company across products and channels. Designs pilot programs to incubate new ideas, sets strategic imperatives and evaluates strategy success against those imperatives. Regularly reviews program progress to accomplish business objectives. Monitors and assesses the US market access environment to identify trends and policy changes, including but not limited to changes in healthcare policy, government healthcare programs, managed care, payment models, comparative effectiveness, customer engagement, and coverage and reimbursement. Collaborates closely with Market Access & Innovation colleagues to understand key market access trends and develop strategies to strengthen Novo Nordisk’s competitive positioning. Translates changes in access landscape to clear and actionable insights, and develops innovative and actionable scenario-based response strategies that will strengthen Novo Nordisk’s future competitive position. Uses industry, reimbursement, and disease area, expertise to provide strategic direction and planning in ways that reveal new opportunities, potential threats and mitigating actions. Works collaboratively with Value Communication, Contracting Strategy, Marketing/Brands, Public Policy and Government Affairs, Medical Affairs, Patient Centered Outcomes Research (PCOR), Account Executives, and Field Sales to gather insights of changes in market dynamics and implement market access strategies. Generates the necessary deliverables to educate and/or guide the relevant internal functions on key trends and insights. Delivers internal and/or external trainings and presentations on ways to recognize and develop innovation within the team. Develops and maintains relationships with key customer executives. Adheres to administrative policies and procedures and encourages others to do the same. Contributes to practices that attract and retain the best people.
Approximately 10% to 20% overnight travel required.
Additional Information Qualifications
* A Bachelor's Degree in Business or equivalent experience. MBA or another advanced degree required. Relevant experience may be substituted for degree, when appropriate
* A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in any of the following areas: pricing, contracting, market access strategy, commercial accounts, patient reimbursement services, innovation, consulting, and/or payer marketing, or relevant healthcare experience
* A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry
* A minimum of two (2) years of leadership experience preferred
* A minimum of two (2) years of managed market experience involving strategy development preferred
* In-depth understanding of at least one retail channel required and of all channels preferred
* Strong understanding of the complex and rapidly evolving factors influencing US market access, including reimbursement trends, payer concerns and healthcare policy
* Have strong interpersonal, communication, analytical and project management skills
* Ability to translate strategies into measurable tactical programs that have high Return on Investment (ROI)
* Requires leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate a vision and engage people in that vision
* Ability to access and influence various functional areas and motivate groups to action without direct line management responsibility
