Job Description Purpose
Novo Nordisk Global Research Informatics (GRI) provides informatics solutions and analysis support to the research projects and organization in Novo Nordisk. With this position, Global Research Informatics is establishing a local team in Novo Nordisk Research Center Seattle, Inc. (NNRCSI). The Research IT Specialist is accountable for the utilization and implementation of a global research informatics platform in NNRCSI. This position will represent the local needs of NNRCSI in the global context of the Global organization.
Reports to the Director of Scientific Applications in Denmark. Daily contact with the Global Research Informatics group in Denmark and regular contact with the Global Research Informatics group in Beijing. Will support all teams in NNRCSI. Internal partners are Global Research Organization/Novo Nordisk, Inc. (GRO/NNI). Vendors of Scientific Software solutions and general IT systems are typical external partners.
Complete complex data management projects that requires strong technical skills and broad understanding of laboratory workflows and standards. Plan and conduct advanced support of Global Research Informatics systems in NNRCSI. Analyze research workflows and define optimal use of supporting IT systems. Coordinate support initiatives with GRI. Develop and maintain procedures to ensure optimal support function in NNRCSI. Develop and maintain data management policies and guidelines for use in NNRCSI in close coordination with departments in NNRCSI and GRI. Participate in management of GRI systems (E.g. user administration, incident handling, etc.). Establish and coordinate training effort across all teams in NNRCSI. Establish and maintain high awareness level of GRI systems and capabilities for all relevant teams in NNRCSI. Develop or acquire new systems and software in collaboration with GRI. Participate as project manager or member in software acquisition/ development projects. Participate in pharmaceutical research projects. This implies, but is not limited to assisting with data capture, analysis and use of the Research Informatics systems. Promote use of data analysis in research projects. Development of visual and analytical platforms in Spotfire. Application of advanced statistical methods and Machine Learning. Ensure good connections and relations between infrastructure providers and GRI.
Approximately 10% overnight travel.
* Education Level: BSc in Computer, Informatics or Life Science required, MSc preferred
* 5+ years of experience
* Ability to work independently
* Excellent communication skills at scientist/ end-user level
* Resolute and able to negotiate
* Structured approach and detail oriented
* Excellent written and oral communication skills is required
* IT project manager experience desired
* Practical experience with data visualization desired
Experience from pharmaceutical industry within the following areas is desired:
* Documentation of pharmaceutical processes or business process reengineering
* Member of IT projects (E.g. requirement specification, user acceptance test, development)
